Every Business Needs Workflow Automation- Here’s Why!

As I mentioned in my first post, workflow automation has not always been available for small business. It just wasn’t cost effective enough to be produced and marketed to a small business budget. But time and technology change things. Now, all business stands to benefit from workflow automation. I am going to talk about the reasons why workflow automation is important to the ultimate success of all companies. If you’re already currently practicing some form of workflow automation, congratulations! Maybe this post will teach you how to take further advantage. If you’re just now being introduced to the concept, consider this your 101 course in workflow automation.

There are three basic and guaranteed advantages to using business process management software. Whether you’re working in IT, accounting, sales or HR, these three are critical:

Accountability – Workflow automation makes your people, and your company as a whole, accountable. Within any given business process, each team member will be responsible for upholding his responsibilities in the required amount of time. Each task within the process has a deadline and every member of the team can view the process as it unfolds. This keeps each level of the process flowing smoothly.

Control – If I asked you to choose a phrase that best describes your business processes, would “under control” honestly even come to mind? It’s doubtful. That’s one of the advantages of workflow automation. It takes something that seems so out of hand and boils it down into traceable, controllable steps. You’ll breathe easier knowing that your status report is just a click away.

Efficiency – Efficiency is absolutely vital in a successful business- in time spent, in communication, in virtually any and all elements of the business. Workflow automation eliminates the enemies of efficiency- slacker behavior, confusion, miscommunication, wasted time, etc. When the process is automated, every step is clear and each team member is aware.

These are three cornerstones- the primary reasons every business should participate in workflow automation. If you use workflow automation software, what are some advantages you’ve found? If you’re just now learning about it, what processes in your business could benefit from these three advantages?
